Determining the Status of Your Safeguarding Certificate and Its Effect on the Coach Licence Renewal Process

Summary

The current status of your Child Protection Course can be found in the Qualifications section of your Sport 80 account. If you are unsure how to find this section of your Sport 80 account, please refer to the Sport 80 Safeguarding Check User Guide

If you subsequently find that your Child Protection Course has either lapsed or is about to lapse and your coach licence renewal is due, you should:

  1. enrol soonest on an Archery GB (AGB) approved tutor-led online or in-person Safeguarding and Protecting Children course; and
  2. complete your coach licence renewal application and send it to the County Coaching Organiser for consideration by the Coach Licence Renewal Panel.

If the Coach Licence Renewal Panel subsequently recommend to AGB that your coach licence be renewed, but your Child Protection Course is no longer current by the time AGB receive the Panel’s recommendation, the most likely outcome will be that AGB will suspend your coach licence until such time that you complete an AGB approved child protection course.

Introduction

Your Sport 80 account will hold a record of the current status of your Safeguarding Course according to the information held by AGB. Therefore, the purpose of this document is to:

  1. explain how you can find out the current status of your Safeguarding Course qualification; and
  2. explain how the status of your Safeguarding Course qualification affects the coach licence renewal process.

Determining the Status of Your Safeguarding Course Qualification

The current status of your Safeguarding Course is recorded in the Qualifications section of your Sport 80 account. This section of your Sport 80 account can be accessed from the home page by clicking on the “View Profile” button and then selecting “Qualifications”. For more information on how to access the Qualifications section of your Sport 80 account, please refer to the Sport 80 Safeguarding Check User Guide.

Effect of Your Safeguarding Course Status on the Coach Licence Renewal Process

None of the AGB coach licence renewal application documentation makes any reference about the need for you to supply the Coach Licence Renewal Panel with proof that you hold a valid Safeguarding Course qualification. Furthermore, if you do hold a valid Safeguarding Course qualification, you are under no obligation to send proof of this qualification to the Panel. Therefore, the status of your Safeguarding Course has no bearing at all on the final recommendation made to AGB by the Coach Licence Renewal Panel regarding whether your coaching qualification should or should not be renewed. However, if the Renewal Panel recommend to AGB that your coach licence should be renewed, but your Safeguarding Course has lapsed, the most likely outcome will be that AGB will suspend your coaching licence until such time that you complete an AGB approved child protection course.

Whilst the best option is not to let your Safeguarding Course lapse, if it has by the time your coach licence is due for renewal (or it is about to), the recommended course of action would be to enrol soonest on an approved tutor-led online or in-person Safeguarding and Protecting Children course. Such courses can be booked either through your Sport 80 account or can be booked directly with UK Coaching.
